Summer is over and in as much as I’d have rather been in a beach somewhere drinking margaritas I’ve been working all summer. Summer sun can be damaging to our hair and long term exposure can result into long term hair problems.

Signs of sun damaged hair
Hair discoloration
The first telltale sign I noticed was this and I knew my hair was in trouble. I usually have beautiful black hair but when I noticed my hair having sun-kissed highlights I knew something was wrong. I even went to dye my hair with brown henna dye because of the frustration.
Dry and brittle hair
If you are out in the sun for a long time, expect your hair to be dry and brittle. And one thing for sure is dry and brittle hair results into a lot of hair breakage.
Change in texture
The sun UV rays disturb the top layer of your hair known as cuticle. Once the cuticle is disturbed the hair cortex is also susceptible to damage.
Remedies for sun damaged hair
Aloe Vera
Take some fresh aloe Vera pulp and mix it with lemon juice then apply it to your hair. Wash your hair after 15 minutes with lukewarm water.
Banana and honey
Take a banana or two bananas (depending on the thickness of your hair) and make a hair smoothie by adding a tbsp of honey to it. Apply it on your hair for 30 minutes then wash it off.
Hot oil treatment
Take a 1/2 cup of olive oil and 3 capsules of vitamin E in a bowl and warm it in a microwave or hot water. Apply the mixture on your hair and massage it on your scalp and hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash it off.
Eggs+olive oil+honey
Eggs contain proteins that nourish and repair damaged hair. If you’ve oily hair use only the white part of the egg. If you’ve dry hair use the egg yolk but if you’ve normal hair you can use the whole egg. Beat the egg with 1tbsp of honey and a tbsp of olive oil. Apply the mixture on your hair and leave it on for about 20 minutes before washing it off.
