Hey beautiful people, have you ever noticed your hairline is receding or your hair is becoming thinner?

I started noticing my hair was thinning a few years back after my PCOS diagnosis (read it here if you don’t know what PCOS is). My natural hairline was receding and my hair used to fall just by touching it. I even had bald spots in my hair but thank goodness the hair is growing back.

There are many reasons that cause your natural hair to start thinning and I’ve shared with you 8 reasons.

Here are the 8 reasons why your natural hair is thinning:

1. Stress

Many people experience hair thinning for several months due to stress but this can be temporary. Stress raises the levels of hormone cortisol, which causes hair thinning. It’s important to manage stress with exercise, meditation and yoga.

2. Poor diet

Deficient in vitamins and minerals due to a lack of eating balanced diet can cause hair thinning. It’s important to eat a balanced diet and you could also take hair vitamins like biotin.

3. Aging

As you age, the rate of hair growth slows and the hair strands become smaller. With time your hair starts thinning.

4. Genetics

This the most common cause of hair thinning. It usually occur gradually; a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning along the crown of the scalp in women.

5. Too much heat

Heat styling tools like curling and flat irons can be harsh on the hair causing breakage and hair thinning. Avoid using heat tools too often and don’t use the heating tools at the hottest setting.

6. Tight hairstyles and over-manipulation of hair

Excessive hairstyling and hairstyles that are tight can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.

7. Medications

Hair thinning can be a side effect of certain drugs such as those of cancer, high blood pressure etc.

8. Health issues

A variety of conditions can cause hair thinning including hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and thyroid problems.
