Skincare can feel overwhelming especially when you are starting out. There is so much information out there, 10 steps routines that people are doing, ingredients that don’t roll out of the tongue easily and all of these can feel overwhelming to a beginner.

I started seriously taking care of my skin on January 1st this year and prior to that I had done lots of research so I would know where and what to use. The information I got overwhelmed me that every time I wanted to start my skincare journey I would postpone it.

I love simplicity and so when it came to my skincare journey I decided to keep things simple and not overwhelm myself. I will share with you a 3 steps skincare routine.

STEP 1: CLEANSE

Cleansing is a vital step in your routine and shouldn’t be skipped especially at night. Cleansing helps you remove impurities, dead skin cells, excess oil and sweat from your skin. Cleanse twice a day; in the morning and at night. Get a hydrating cleanser to start with. I have been loving the dove beauty soap because it has been gentle on my skin and has helped me to not further damage my skin moisture barrier.

When you wear makeup and sunscreen it is important to double cleanse your face. Ditch the makeup remover wipes and get an oil cleanser to remove your makeup.

STEP 2: MOISTURIZE

Moisturizing your skin is important because your skin needs moisture and having products that are hydrating and moisturizing will have your skin moisture barrier thanking you. All skin types require a moisturizer even people with oily skin. Most of your skin issues can be solved when your moisturizer game is top notch.

I personally have been loving hyaluronic acid serum to hydrate my skin, makes it feel soft and helps me moisturized. After the hyaluronic acid I use the Neutrogena hydro boost moisturizer to seal in the moisture.

STEP 3: PROTECTION

Sunscreen is important for skin protection against skin cancer. Your skincare routine will only be effective when you don’t skip this step. People of color need sun protection too and I have shared sunscreen suggestions that don’t leave a white cast on dark skinned people, read them here.

Sunscreen should be used every day no matter the weather and whether or not you are going out or staying in. The two finger rule should always be followed.

Once you have established your basics you can start adding other steps to address you skin concerns. This 3 steps routine might look basic to you but trust me it goes a long way and you will see an improvement on your skin.

Thank you for reading. Until next time, sending virtual kisses.
